Not Music to my Ears

 I looked at who was at Summerfest.  No clue.  No clue as to the majority of acts performing.  I knew I was old.  Just really feeling it.

I thought Darling Nikki by Prince was a scandalous song when I was younger.  A lot younger.  I'm so glad I don't turn the radio on.  I will admit I did know who Sza was because I watched the Grammys this year.  I know who Cardi B is and I'm so sorry I do.

I don't know who thought the song WAP was about female empowerment. I had downloaded a song with Bruno Mars and Cardi B and thought it was ok.  I wound up deleting one from how graphic it was.  And why does anyone care that Cardi B isn't going to endorse Joe Biden?  Do we care?  Didn't she throw a microphone at someone that threw a drink at her?  I looked up the lyrics for WAP and thought, what am I missing?  Why is this female empowerment?  Am I that old?

I had all of Alanis Morissette's music back in the 90s.  I got to admit I can't watch Fuller House knowing what Alanis did with Uncle Joey in a movie theatre after listening to You Ought to Know.  Makes me reconsider going to a movie in a theatre know that I think about it.  Those were the scandal songs.  Things you allude to in a song.  All this singing about kitty cats is not a song about Disney's the Aristocats.  I found that out the hard way listening to Cardi B.  

I loved Motwon growing up and I always loved R&B music.  Obviously Stevie Wonder is my favorite but John Legend is right up there.  I loved my girl groups like The Go Gos and bad girls like Pat Benatar. I love my fun girl music who are as old as me, Gwen Stefani and I even like that old bat Madonna.  I had the finger gloves and thought I had the edgy attitude as a teen.  I didn't.  I loved her until she started doing pictures of herself at gas stations naked.  

I did like Lizzo until I found out she was a rude broad.  What I liked about her music is that her playing flute reminded me of why I love music.  I played the flute in band.  I also played piano for awhile. I loved listening to an artist use an instrument like the flute and incorporate it like she did.  Yes, I know she curses too.  I'm not Tipper Gore.  I have my limits on the bad language.  

I do miss how getting an album or a CD was so great because all of the songs were great, like Stevie Wonder's Songs in the Key of Life or any of Pat Benatar's music.  I never download an entire album because most of it is meh.  So so.  

Even I'm bothered by what's out there now, music brings me joy.  Cardi B just makes me look for a bar of soap.
