Confessions from the City Tattletale

So I did report the monster to the health department a few times about the dog poop when he was here.  I did it through Facebook messenger and actually they were aware that it was a problem.  I knew the monster had gotten one of the reports because I could hear him screaming about something being frozen.  He told my mom that it was hard to pick up the dog poop because it was frozen to the ground.  How about you do it after they poop?  What a novel concept.  My next door neighbor had also reported him as well.  He had to put up a small fence to keep the dogs out because they were going to the bathroom in his bushes and they killed some of the small trees that he planted.

After the monster screamed obscenities at us that morning, I had texted the landlord about what had happened and sent a picture of how he stomped pastry on our landing.  He wasn't that far from the door when he was screaming and I didn't catch all of it.  I was too shook up to talk to the landlord when he called, but my mom talked to him.  He was very cold and said he was only the landlord.  She basically said sorry to bother you and was curt with him as well.  It was ok to call us filthy names.  We had it coming, am I right?  Yeah.  Well I was afraid to leave our apartment for a few weeks.  I did but I always held my breath when I walked past his door.

Months earlier, I had reported the monster to the city anonymously about the lawn.  He was so lazy about snow removal and mowing the lawn.  Our lawn was terrible and I was able to do it without putting my name on it.  Then I felt bad seeing our landlord mowing the lawn a couple of mornings later.  I thought why isn't he making the monster mow?  The landlord admitted later how lazy the monster was.

He stuck for the monster and made us out to be the hysterical females.  We thought well, we're not going to bother him again.  We saw the lawn growing longer and longer by summer.  Then the dog poop that never got cleaned up.

I had enough and sent a letter to the city.  I was angry with the landlord.  I thought how would he like it if someone called his wife and daughters those names?  I knew there were two things that he understood and wanted protected.  His reputation and money.  So yeah, I wrote a letter and said the owner sits on the porch and smokes weed all day.  The whole neighborhood could smell it.   The monster acted like he owned the property so other than us, most people may think the monster did own this place.  He behaved that way.

Well a few days later, we see the landlord out in the street talking to two of the gossipiest neighbors.  We knew the city contacted him about the lawn.  I was a little worried but I thought well, his tenant hadn't worked for months and spent his days on the porch.  Maybe he needed some activity.  I knew the landlord wouldn't like it if people thought it was him sitting outside and smoking weed.

They both worked on the lawn.  He must have gotten the monster out of bed and had him sweeping up grass while the landlord mowed.  I didn't dare go downstairs until long after the landlord left.

I saw the gossipy neighbor after I took out the trash later and asked if hell froze over because the lawn is mowed.  He told me that the landlord was here and that he had a lot of conversations with the monster.  He wouldn't tell me what it was.  He did look spooked.

He probably looked spooked because he reported the monster to the city.  He might have admitted it to the landlord who might not have been happy.  Or maybe the neighbor was onto me.  I don't care.

For the last 5 years, our lawn has looked like garbage.  Our landlord has let this happen.  Our lawn looks like garbage now as the sale will hopefully be completed within the next week.  Fingers crossed. I really doubt the landlord will mow one last time.  He's done and so are we.

I don't like being a Gladys Cravitz and reporting people like that.  I felt bullied and scared in my own home at times and our landlord turned an eye to it and he was a bit of a bully himself.  I didn't do anymore anonymous reporting after that because it did worry me that I would get found out.  The landlord did have someone mow the lawn a few times and the guy stopped because he was getting hit in the face with dog poop.

My mom would like to tell the landlord what she thinks of him and we agreed no burning bridges even if it's well deserved.

Do I regret tattling?  No.  He's  bully and so is his friend.  I just want both of them out of our lives.
