Confusing New World

My mom is up too early for me.  She's talking about the news, what she sees on Facebook and I'm like go back to sleep, ma'am.  First up.  The news sucks.  When Lawrence O'Donnell needs a break from this insanity, what does that say?  And Facebook has become the new social media app for racists and white supremacists.  Don't even look at it.  I send Corinne memes if I come across one.  Otherwise, forget it.

I know what Republicans say about Democrats because I was a minority of that group when I started this job.  I saw Ronald Reagan calendars and George W. Bush dolls and thought, well, I'm trouble. I listened to a managing attorney call us snowflakes and people mention the war on Christmas.  I've been preparing for this new world for years.  How did I manage?  Deflect and avoid.  It's not something people should talk about in the workplace and yet, it happened.  It got better over time as people left and new people came in that knew better.

I didn't understand what Barry had meant about the war on Christmas and this was back in 2002.  Now I get it.  It's made up crap from Fox News.  Celebrate however you want.  The only war in their heads is just made up outrage.  Every year, the managing attorney would ask the legal assistants to put up the Christmas tree.  She would ask me and I would tell her it's offensive.  Yes, I celebrate Christmas.  I was offended she didn't ask a paralegal or attorney.  That tree we had was obnoxious and I suck at decorating.  I did find it offensive to put that obnoxious thing up every year because the holidays aren't always a great time for people.  All I ever heard about was all the gifts people were getting and all the events they had.  No, I didn't have anything like that.  I don't have family here other than my mom.  The managing attorney wanted us to celebrate St. Nick.  That's some dumb Milwaukee thing that people don't do anymore.  It's a Catholic thing and I don't support the church that protects pedophiles.  No thank you.

My head is just spinning between dysfunctional family and politics.

So much for starting out the weekend on a positive note.

I think I need cartoons this morning.
