Lila the Divorce Attorney

So about 8 years ago, we got a new attorney who started.  Frick's much hated attorney got promoted so they had to find a replacement.  And by hated, they mutually hated each other.  Anyway, Frick thought she would get the new attorney that they hired and we even looked her up on her Linkedin page.  Pretty blonde with black rimmed glasses.  Frick thought finally, she gets the new person.  She hated her other attorney.  Well when someone expects you to show up for work everyday, I guess that makes them an awful person.  I digress.

So Frick didn't get Lila.  I got assigned to Lila.  We received an email that there were going to be changes and I was assigned to two new attorneys.  Melvin wasn't new but Lila was.  Frick was assigned to one of my current attorneys, Holly and another attorney.  Frick was mad.  Lois was passive aggressive with me.  I wasn't sure how I felt about the whole thing and I didn't understand why.  Holly said maybe it was because I had the most seniority.  I was on Frick's shit list for the next 15 months.  That's a different blog post.

Lila seemed jittery when I was introduced to her and I told her it would be fine.  I figured at some point she might want to talk to me one on one.  That never happened.

The next day I got rear ended by another car at a red light. I went to the clinic that was a few blocks away and then got the prescriptions that my soon to be current doctor prescribed.  I told him that our group had an event planned to see a movie and he thought it would be ok.  I went to work and told a few people what happened.  Sosie asked if I needed any help.  Lois offered to help me sue.  Now Lois shows up.

I went to Lila and told her what happened and apologized for showing up late.  She just gave me a blank look and honestly, I felt like an intruder. I thought she's new and I should check in to see how she was doing.  I got out.

When we went to the movie, we took separate cars.  Lorna, the kiss ass settled in with the attorneys.  I saw a seat near Lila and she put her hand on it and told me it was reserved for Sosie. I was a little disoriented from my morning and one of the pain pills kicked in. I apologized and wound up on the end with Melvin and Jackie, our new managing attorney and Frick's nemesis.  Frick got out of the event.  I kind of thought that Lila was a little adamant in slapping her hand on the seat that it bothered me a little.

Yet, when it came to our Christmas gift, we had a breakfast at a nearby restaurant and she slipped me a card and thanked me for my work.  Her and Holly got me a gift card for gas which I thought was cool.  Lois never got me anything which was ok, but I guess Holly wanted to show her appreciation for the time we worked together as well.  I thought well, maybe the new year will be better and I'll get to know Lila.

I always felt like I was intruding when I would ask Lila questions so I tried to email and think maybe that would help.  There was a day where the attorneys would have to conduct committees with people every 3 weeks and discuss claims.  She only had one assigned to her for the week and I had someone ask me where Lila was. I asked my manager.  Lila's manager wasn't around and the attorneys didn't know where she was.  I gave Lila a call and she said Her grandfather died.  I said Oh, I'm sorry. I was puzzled why she didn't call and let anyone know.  She also said that she was walking her dog.  I said well I only called because you have a committee and I didn't know what happened.  She never apologized and she never said thank you when I said I guess I'll find someone to cover for you.  Someone did and I thought it was really crappy that they did at the time, but I thought well, she had a loss.

It would happen again.  Lila came to me after I assigned her one too many claims for her to handle.  She was in tears and said that she couldn't handle what the person was asking for.  I thought is she overwhelmed?  I said are you ok?  Do you need a hug?  She couldn't have been colder when she said No. I thought maybe life was too much for her that day and I was trying to show some empathy.  I found the same attorney who helped me before help me with this situation.

When I went to tell Lila that someone else took over, she brightened up and seemed all better.  No more weepy tears.

At that point, I thought, what a pain in the ass.  What a spoiled little child.  I get overwhelmed too.  I don't pout and stomp my feet like a little girl.  If I do, I at least do the task at hand. I don't dump it on anyone like a spoiled bitch.  At that point, I thought what a baby.

There was more than one occasion that someone called and was looking for Lila.  It was our outside counsel who needed to get her authority.  It was an immediate matter and I didn't know what to do so I found Sosie who helped me more than once.

I found out from Sosie after Lila left that she used to go to her car and take a nap.  Or go for a Starbucks and not have her phone on.

I couldn't figure out why Lois had wedding bells on our performance board and she said Don't you know?  Our entire group looked at me and I said No.  I don't know.

Lila was getting married in the month of July.  I turned to her and said I thought you were already married.  I looked at Lorna and Frick and asked, You all knew?  Lorna said well I have a big mouth. No, she's a gossip and so is Frick.

Lila was red in the face.  She was exposed for being the entitled child that she was.  Didn't even share that she was getting married with her own assistant.  I thought you don't even want to talk to me half the time so why is this a shock?

It was Frick that decorated Lila's office.  Lila seemed dejected when I told her that it wasn't me.  I thought you don't tell me so why should I do anything?  I almost did with Frick but she was hell bent on doing it herself. I thought why should I make the effort?  She spent two weeks in Greece.  I got to do jury duty for a half day.  I wasn't feeling festive for her return.

Life went on and she continued to ignore and really not answer my emails or say What did I do now?  When I would knock at her door with a question.

When it came to Christmas, I didn't expect anything but I did get another gas card.  I got it flipped on my desk.  No card.  Just an awkward have a nice Christmas thing.  I said thank you.

When she gave notice, she did come to me first.  She said Um, I didn't want it to be awkward.  Too late.  I thanked her.

She avoided me for those 2 weeks.  She never told me she was working at home. I would actually raise my desk up to stand while I worked and would watch her walk past and look directly at her and watch her head turn the other way.

I found out from Frick that she came in one night late with her husband to get her things.  How convenient.  Come in after I came home.  What did I do that was so awful that made her avoid me like that?

I get it.  She treated me like shit and she knows it.  She was dismissive and rude and punted things off on me and I didn't say a word.  I thought good riddance.  Sosie thought that she just wanted something where she would get the time off for her wedding.  Of course she got married in Door County.

When it came to her last day, I did go over there and say my goodbye. I really wanted to walk out and never see her again.  She was just insulting but I thought NO.  You're not getting off the hook little girl and she even hugged me and thanked me for my kindness. I wished her luck.

She tried to come back like a year later and I said hell no when I heard that.

Lila wound up opening her own boutique practice.  It's mostly divorce law.  That's just perfect for her.  I read her reviews which were good for the most part but laughed when I read the one negative one about Lila ignoring their calls.  I thought take a number.  Me too.

Lila was a spoiled brat.  Lorna told me she used to bring her dog into the same hair place she went to and treated people terribly.  That's rich coming from Lorna, but I could see it. I was just another bitch to Lila.  Just treat me with disrespect.

Lila would probably do well with women wanting to get what they could from their soon to be ex husbands.  She's spoiled, entitled and dismissive.

I told Frick she should go see if she could get a job with her.

For 15 months, I had Frick making passive aggressive comments because I got the attorney she wanted.  Our relationship wasn't perfect but it was manageable but between her and Lila, they made life pretty stressful.

Lila will be very successful with the passive aggressive spoiled women looking to divorce their husbands.

Lois told me that there was raccoon shit outside of Lila's office before she started and talked to building maintenance about it.

I think the raccoons were onto something.
